Sweatproof Headphones For Runners – Best Sweat Resistant Earphones

So, after the third pair of headphones crapped out on me at the gym this year I decided enough was enough – there had to be a better solution for listening to my tunes whilst jogging on the treadmill. Turns out, there is, and I feel like a fool for wasting money on those other brands.

Sweatproof headphones are not exactly a new technology but they were certainly new to me. All that sweat pouring down my face had eventually caused my regular earphones to clog up and die and me, like an idiot had just assumed it was the regular rigours of daily use which had damaged them and had gone for increasingly more expensive models. Lesson learned – sweatproof earphones are the way to go if you intend to use them in any kind of exercise or sweat making activity.

So, armed with new knowledge, I went looking to find the best sweatproof headphones I could find within my budget range. I like music but I’m a cheapskate so spending hundreds of dollars just wasn’t and is still not an option. Thankfully, most sweat resistant earphones don’t even come close to that price bracket so there were plenty to choose between from good manufacturers. I dodn’t even have to make a choice which would excluded certain types because all the major styles come with a waterproof option of one kind or another. You can pick between in-ear, over-ear, behind the neck, bluetooth wireless models etc. as manufacturers make them all.

For me, I wanted a set of sweat proof headphones for running and because I often run on cold mornings I wanted something without a headband because I often wear a beanie and that just gets in the way with that style. That still left plenty of options and besides, I had the feeling those over the head band earphones would fall of more easily during a workout.

So I narrowed it down to a few different models which had three things I liked:

  • Great Reviews
  • Good Value
  • Trustworthy Brand

There are a number of options out there but after much searching and comparing my top three picks are as follows:

Sennheiser/Adidas PMX 680 High-Performance Rugged Stereo Neckband Headphone for Sports
List Price: £44.99

Amazon Price: £29.99

If you are looking for a pair of water resistant and sweat proof neckband headphones for sports and gym fitness use then these Sennheiser sports headphones are an excellent choice. They are designed to stand up to the rigours of a heavy duty workout or sports environment so you can push yourself to the limits without worrying about damaging your earphones. The strain relief parts are made from flexible, shock absorbing materials whilst the cable is Dupont Kevlar reinforced to continue working under harsh conditions. Not only are these lightweight and sturdy sweatproof headphones but they sound great too and fit snug and secure in your ear. Overall, these are a fantastic deal at this price.

Philips SHQ1000/10 Sweatproof Sports In-Ear Headphone
List Price: £20.00

Amazon Price: £5.00

These sweatproof earbuds are ideal for the gym. Not only do they have a water resistant seal to prevent sweat related damage but are also made from sweat resistant materials combined with an anti-bacterial agent to protect your ears from infection and bacterial build up. 3 sizes of earbuds are provided to ensure you can get a snug fit in your ear.

Sony MDR-AS20J Active Series Headphones
List Price:

Amazon Price: £6.00

Ideal for the active user, these around the ear loop style headphones provide thumping bass with shock absorbing technology to stay working perfectly throughout the most rigorous workout. Whether you are pounding the streets or running on a treadmill, these loop earphones are designed to stay on snug and secure no matter your movement extremes. They are aimed at providing the perfect marriage of comfort, secure fitting and sound quality for active use and are available here at a great price.

Eventually, I went with this pair from Sennheiser as they not only had great reviews but looks awesome and as I found out after ordering it, was supremely comfortable too. I ordered mine right here at Amazon UK because they had the lowest price I could find (over 50% cheaper than the retail price at the time I bought them) after making many comparisons and their shipping and return policy is second to none.

If you are in the market for a new pair or water resistant or sweat proof headphones for running, working out or for general use, then I’d highly recommend them. I’ve used them for a few weeks now without any issues and would buy them again in a heartbeat.
