I’m not what you might call a tree hugger by any stretch of the imagination but put something both eco-friendly, super cool and useful in front of me and you’ve probably got yourself a sale. The Logitech K750 solar powered keyboard was such a product and now that I own one, I’m amazed ALL keyboard manufacturers haven’t yet jumped on this bandwagon. I LOVE IT!

I hated my wired mouse with its trailing ‘tail’ getting snagged on things and causing a nuisance on my desk. I didn’t hate my wired keyboard quite so much but I still switched to a wireless one at the first opportunity which arose. I was never a fan of the keyboard needing battery power to run however. Like I said, I’m no tree hugger, but I do feel batteries are an expensive way to provide power and are ultimately an enviromental burden which these days is often unecessary. When I saw Logitech had produced a keyboard run by solar power I though “YES, that’s what I need!” and immediately put an order in at Amazon to have one delivered.
Let’s face it, if a calculator does fine with a small solar panel then a computer keyboard, which isn’t hugely different ought to run just fine with a larger solar strip right? That was my reasoning anyway and the Logitech K750 reviews were across the board awesome so I had no trouble putting some money down on one of these bad boys.
I’ve had my Logitech K750 wireless keyboard for a few weeks now and I can honestly say I absolutely LOVE it.
My main concern, and probably yours too, was how well a keyboard could utilize solar power when it is stuck inside in a home office. I’m near a window but I don’t exactly sit right under it and my room doesn’t get the best light. I quickly found that didn’t matter with this keyboard and honestly it sits there on a near maximum charge most of the time. The solar charging feature works GREAT and I couldn’t be happier with this. There’s a desktop app you can install to monitor your levels and it also lets you see how much light power various light sources are providing so you can see whether your desk lamp is providing enough juice and how much.
I also love the feel of the keys. Rather than the clicky clacky sound most keyboards give you, this one feels a little more like a laptop keyboard with a softer, less obtrusive sound being produced. It feels nice and they keys are springy enough to make typing really comfortable without feeling spongy.
The Logitech K750 solar keyboard looks sleek and attractive on my desk. It doesn’t look like an elongated calculator but the solar strip with its deep red hues contrasted with the sleek black surface of the keyboard actually adds to the attractiveness of the device. Not calculatory at all.
Logitech isn’t just talk when it comes to providing a green keyboard device either as this one uses PVC free plastic and comes in fully recyclable packaging. I don’t expect to save a huge amount of power using this compared to a wired keyboard, but I do think the wireless aspect and the environmental effect of never having to replace a keyboard battery again has to be a good thing.
I bought mine on Amazon because after shopping around, this was the best price I could find either online or on the high street and besides, I love the security of their no hassle return policy.
